Now I'm writing a version of the story which I wish was written out there or at least finished. If you like, I'll continue. Note: If you are a Carrie Fan and want more stories on her, go to CFAS (Carrie Fernandez Appreciation Society). It can easily be located on yahoo by searching Carrie Fernandez. Chapter 13 * * * * * * * * * * * * * * A cold day in Wallechia * * * * * * * * * * * * * * After an hours trek, the village was in her sights. Looking back into the distance, she saw the ominous castle barely within eyesight. Even at such a distance, one could locate Dracula's castle with ease. Stretching the kinks out of her stiff arms, she proceeded into the village. Nothing had changed much. Most notably, it was still bursting with activity since last she remembered. No one paid her much mind, as there were many visitors that came by on a regular basis. They usually came for the scenery for it was breathtaking. She saw a few familiar faces, but no one recognized her, which she would have been surprised if anyone did. She hadn't visited much in the past two years. The village was built upon a small hill, which elevated above ground level enough to provide a wondrous view of the landscape. Small rivers surrounded the left bank of the village provided its inhabitants with fresh water, as the greenish land flourishing with life was used to grow crops. The only difference that she could make were the newer wooden houses, with sturdy tiled roofs she hadn't recalled. The houses weren't small, but would be called cozy. Chimneys were a common site all over Wallechia, as someone always kept a fire going to cook, or to just bask in its warmness. Now that she thought about it, it was kind of windy suddenly. Luckily it still wasn't too serious, as she remained fairly warm enough in her sundress. Admiring the place as if reliving a memory, she almost didn't catch the stares other people were giving her. That drew attention to her, and she didn't actually favor it. Looking around, everyone was dressed in something dull like a tunic, or sweatshirt. *It must be this pink. . . It's isolating me from the rest.* But she couldn't do anything about it now, as she had brought no second set of clothing with her. What need would she have had of it before, when she would only be out shortly? Looking at the location of the sun along with the alignment of her shadow, she judged it to be somewhere around 10 in the morning. Walking across a bridge, she made her way to a restaurant. Stands were everywhere along the sides, and the streets were bursting with the populace. Finding what she was looking for, she ate in silent reminiscence. Other customers fond it odd for that a girl would eat silently by herself with a second set of plates on the opposite side as if she were not alone. The manager didn't care as long as she paid. The air had gotten colder when she had finished, and even the once sunny sky was now heavily clouded. Rubbing her hands together, she created some warmth with friction. Winter was starting to set in. Heading quickly down the street, she headed to the shopping district and bought a warm cloak with a few pieces of gold. She had enough of it to last a month in her pouch. Tightening the cloak around herself, she hoped it would be enough to keep her warm for the remainder of her stay. The natural elements were not in favor of her. Clasping the string of her hood around her neck, she provided some resistance from the wind from her numbing ears. She'd have to be quick with her business, or else succumb to the elements if she were out too long. Though she had the extra outer clothing to keep her warm from the cold air, she had no intention of staying in the village when she thought about the warm bed that awaited her back at the castle. It was growing on her. Quickening her pace, she had found the flowers her late mother had adored. She was on her way, right after a light conversation with the lady behind the counter. She was happy to get rid of them, as they would die out certainly as the seasons changed. Even so, she was a curious fellow and had asked her what or who they were for. Replying honestly, she smiled and offered an extra batch to Carrie while complimenting about how more teenagers should be like her. With carnations in hand, she was done here. Relocating the path she took, she backtracked to the gravel walkway she had been on recently. *Why am I doing this?* It was always nagging on her mind now and then. Why had she befriended the enemy of mortals? Why did she find being in such close proximity of the castle comfortable enough to stay? Many would think her mad. Even fewer would truly ever understand her, as even she hardly understood herself. It may have been because of the circumstances, but she had received something long lost and it stirred her emotions from within. Even with such thoughts invading her mind, she would dismiss them and they would return later. It was never good to dwell upon the past. It brought bad memories. . . Another violent gust of wind hammered into her frame, bellowing her cloak around her dress. Snow was starting to set, as a light layer was already piling on the fields around her. Even the street stands were being picketed, as the weather proved to be too foul for their tastes to stick around. Making her way, she hitched a ride on a friendly farmers wagon. He would be heading in the same direction for a few miles, and she could use the break. The snow was getting thicker upon the path beneath, as the wheels left behind tread marks. A peculiar thing that she had noticed was a group of four travelers that looked misplaced just entering a nearby restaurant. Even though they were quite some distance away as her ride began striding away, she made out some of their features. They all were dressed differently from the villagers, marking them as strangers. Also the unusual long silver haired figure which was one of them seemed a bit pale. He was vibrating an aura which was disturbing her flow of mana. . . Distanced and nearly out of sight, that man paused to look toward the shrinking wagon with the corner of his eyes, before joining his companions. He had felt a familiar presence when the girl had been close. . . Saving that thought for later, he joined his party. They would need to discuss their plans now that they had finally arrived in Transylvania. . . The dark castle loomed just over horizon, within his sights. If the villagers had spoken the truth, it would be there. He would finally be able to claim the fabled Necronomicon for his own purposes. The book of the dead. . . *It won't be long now. . . My destiny awaits. . .* (Later, on the path to the Castle) "That's far enough, I'll be getting off her." she said to the farmer as they reached the opening of an embankment to a hill. They had chatted about mostly nothing for the duration of her stay. It had been nice to talk to the old man. "Are you sure? I could take you further up the hill." He asked persistently. It was a long way up, and leaving a little girl by herself this far from civilization was worrying him. He just had to be sure. "I would like to walk the rest of the way. Please understand. . ." eyes glittering back at him, it was hard to say no. It was convincing enough for him. "Well, okay. . ." What else could he say? The girls mind was made up. Dropping the act, she smiled at him before hoisting herself to the ground below. She shrank a few inches in the layering snow. Checking herself for all her belongings, she gave the farmer a wave goodbye in appreciation as he disappeared down the road. Left too wander in his own thoughts alone again, he discovered he had been tricked by the girl. Looking back, she had already disappeared. . . Best not to think too much about it, and get his business done quickly. It was getting quite chilly outside too. Taking another breath, Carrie released a small gust of freezing air. Turning to face the obstacle before her, she gave out a sigh before attempting the rest of the climb with her mother's gift in hands. "I'm coming mother. . ." * * * * * * * * * * End of Chapter 13 * * * * * * * * * * Authors Notes: I just felt like adding this part in. I'm building character and stuff. I like developing characters personalities and stuff. It helps the story and explain why they do things in the long run. Some people thought I rushed Carrie giving into Dracula too quickly in the beginning, so I'm going to try and avoid that in future.
