Castlevania: Dark Haven (Alternate Ending) * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * I give credit to the people who created Castlevania's bad Carrie ending. Now I'm writing a version of the story which I wish was written out there or at least finished. If you like, I'll continue. (Previously. . .) "I have freed you. You may do as you wish. You are now the master of your own fate. . ." The contract burst to purple flames as soon as it hit the ground he used to stand upon. Chapter 7 * * * * * * * * * * Painful Decision * * * * * * * * * * Carrie awoke slowly, small parts of her mind gathering and becoming more aware as time went on in slow procession. Taste. . . The taste of her mouth felt wrong. She hadn't managed to brush her teeth for the duration of her stay. It made it impossible for her to sleep some more, as she now recognized its irritation, for what it was. Maybe she should get up to rinse that bad feeling out of her mouth. Touch. . . She could feel the warm blankets around her. Warm and safe, as she snuggled to a nearby pillow. She knew someone must have put her there, by the way the blankets lay above her in perfect place. She knew she tossed and turned in her sleep, and she didn't find the fact that they were currently as they were above her noteworthy. The sudden something laying on the right side was, as it caused her to involuntarily roll a bit towards it by the indention it made. She frowned at that. Smell She sniffed, as she suddenly smelt a sweet aroma from where the sudden indention would be. She found herself waking quicker as her body came quickly with the other two senses quickly. Hearing The sound of her own steady breathing whispered into her ear. She found herself rubbing at her eyes after a few more steady breaths. Sight Rubbing the sleep away from her eyes, her vision came slowly as her vision was not quite within her grasp yet, but fast approaching. The illuminating light of the moon forced her to flinch, Also telling her it was sometime at night. As her vision adjusted to her surroundings, she found herself lock eyes with the tray of grilled chicken and mushroom soup, still steaming and fresh. Quickly, she moved towards it, and grasped the wooden spoon before her, as it was delicately placed on the tray in a set. As she was about to dive into the meal before her, she questioned herself if it might be poisoned. Another grumble from her stomach took away her morals and she began eating. The taste was delicious! She found herself eating faster than normal, as life was restored to her. No longer in her eyes dwelled the sleepy state it once was. As she finished up, her bedroom door opened. Taking a moment to clean herself, she gave a silently thank you to her host, as he nodded at that before walking over and sitting beside her bed side with her. Both sat in silence, waiting for the other to make the initiative to start a conversation. Turning to face her after making sure his mask was impenetrable of all emotion, he spoke clearly as Carrie awaited. "You may leave this place whenever you wish. I do not hold you to our claim anymore." About to retort, Dracula hushed her with his fingers upon her lips as she stared back pleadingly. "There's no reason for you to stay in this cursed castle. Would you not want to return to your people? When you leave, never look back. You may come to regret your decision as time passes, but know it's better to think of the future, than dwell in the past." Finally, he let her speak, eyes locked to each other. "I have no place to go, and no where I'd rather be than here. It may be a dark future, but I have found my place here. . . With you. . ." *I would not want to abandon you here. . .* An after thought as she finished. "Your future will not be so bright as it once was, but darker if you are to stay in this evil place. Your kind will come for me. When they arrive, what then of you? Would you forsake, and betray your own flesh and blood? Would you sacrifice your humanity to be here? Would you sacrifice your LIFE to be HERE?!" She cringed, as the onslaught of words were directed solely at her. She had nothing to say to that. She was speechless to say the least. He had targeted her morals well as her conscience tried to process an answer to his question. Would she be willing to give all that up just to stay? Not just sacrifice her humanity, but bring herself to betray the very people she had come to protect? So lost was she, that she could not comment, but with silence. Slowly, as an unbearable silence ensued, it ended as Dracula stood up and walked away with a final message. "I'll give you some time to think. Readjust your morals and think of my proposition. Speak carefully as the clock ticks midnight when we meet again as it may be our last. With that, he faded out of eyesight, leaving a saddened girl behind. (11:00PM) As she wandered without destination, she found herself back in Dracula's white rose garden. They were red, which contradicted what they truly were to those who first laid eyes upon it. As she fingered the texture of the soft flowers, she heard the approach of another. Looking about, she caught site of Rosa, the eternal keeper of Dracula's roses. She was blond haired, with red eyes. The eyes gave an uncanny feeling and left no doubt she was not human. Rosa upon spotting Carrie, was shocked that she still lived. All the adventurers that had gone further within the castle had perished she assumed, as none made it back till now. Only her. . . Grasping the blond haired women in a tight hug, she then distanced herself to control the emotions brewing inside her. After calming down, they sat while she retold in brief detail what had happened to her current predicament. She needed advice, and Rosa was here. She'd know what to do. . . She had been listening so far, and chose her words to best advise her. "Carrie, it would be best if you left this place. . . This is no place for mortals to walk around. . . It is not safe, and would you be happy?" Staring into the depths of her eyes, she kneeled down to clasp her shoulders. "Just leave. . . It would be best that way. . ." she sighed as she finished. The rational thing would be to leave if she herself had a choice, but she was not her, and could not decide for her. Soon after finishing, Carrie head held low and bowed. "Thanks for your time. . ." And left it at that, wandering around again. *She seemed so sad. . .* Rosa thought. *Oh Reinhardt. . .* as she too felt saddened. (11:30PM) The night was cool, as it was beautiful. Stars shined clearly in the midnight sky as not a cloud could be seen. Outside, below its magnificent sheen was a girl by the fountain, just beyond the gigantic gates of a castle. This girl was thinking so much, that she had no time to admire the skies or the world around her. She was in a world of her own as she questioned herself. *What she said was exactly what he told me. . . Maybe their right. . . I have not been in the right state of mind lately. So much has happened that I feel my mind unable to think properly. . . But. . . I do want to stay as well.* Time was running out, and she needed a sign as she had a conflict of interest. She didn't want to do this naïve way of deciding, but she found she had not enough time to think of another way to think rationally of a decision. If only she had more time. . . Taking out a gold coin from her pouch, she flipped the coin into the air. It twirled and glistened under the moonbeam as her eyes followed its path up, before it made its descent between her awaiting hands. Either way, she loses as no matter which choice it was, they both were like a double edged sword. She could not decide between them by the way her feelings were. "Whatever happens, I'll not regret. . ." as she slowly removed her hands in fear of whatever the outcome might be. * * * * * * * * * * End of Chapter 7 * * * * * * * * * * Author Notes: Spur of the moment ending.
