Prologue Carrie kept her eyes glued to the road as the wagon road forward, next to her sat Mauls. Both of them had escaped from Castlevania before it started to crumble. She felt eyes on her and turned towards Mauls who kept on glancing at her nervously. "...Carrie?" The nervousness in his voice was obvious. "Hm?" She hummed absent mindly. "When we get back to the village...will you marry me?" Carrie was snapped to full attention and turned towards the young boy who was only a year or two younger then her in surprise. "What!?" "I'll make you happy I promise!" Mauls exclaimed. "But we both are to young, it's far to soon to get married!" Carrie protested. She could feel her cheeks turning red, and she was trembling abit. " Then when we grow up, then we will be married?" Mauls asked again, not ready to give up. Carrie smiled, titling her head slightly to the side, amused with this boys persistent manner. She supposed he was cute, and perhaps he would provide good company, for when she got back to the village she would be alone, her family was dead after all.... "Hmmmm, Mauls, will you become a brave warrior and protect me?" She asked a little teasing, she knew that she could very will take care of herself, but she just wanted to see how Mauls would react. "Yes!! No matter what, I'll protect you!" Mauls vowed excitedly. "Well, I'll see..." Carrie smiled, and began to turn away from him but he grabbed her hand. "No, you must promise me now, say you will be my bride!" Carrie turned back to face him and saw herself staring into his deep blue eyes, he seemed really hopeful and she did not want to break that hope and besides, she felt some kind of odd connection to this young boy. Besides even if she promised now, chances are by the time they grew up he would have found someone else and had forgotten about her promise. "Ok, when we grow up, I will be your bride! Are you happy now?" Carrie asked with a bright smile. "Yes very good...now we have a binding contract." Carrie could feel her blood freeze in her veins and she turned to him with a surprised expression. "What was that?" "Oh nothing." Mauls muttered turning his eyes back towards the road, Carrie shrugged it off and also turned her gaze away from the boy to face the road. "Hey...Mauls? Would you mind if we stopped at the grave yard before going back to the village?" "How come?" The boy asked curiously. "I want to vist my mother...Both of them." Mauls had helped her pick some wild flowers in the field before they walked up to the tombstone on the hill, neither of them spoke to each other during the walk, but Carrie was not really in the mood for small talk as they both laid the flowers down in front of the grave stone. Next to that tomb was a small wood cross. "It's been two years since I visited my real mothers grave..." Carrie spoke at last, but she wasn't talking to Mauls. " What do you mean?" " See this bigger cross, that belonged to my step-mother, I loved her dearly, she gave her life to protect me from Dracula's forces... That smaller cross I made myself for my real mother...." "How did she die?" "...She was burnt at the stake for practicing witch craft..." Mauls cringed for a moment, as memories of someone dear to him stirred in his mind. " I watched my mother burn before my very eyes...I was adopted after that but....My step-mother was the only human I loved after that...I'll be the first one to admit after my mother burnt at the stake I hated humans, but being human myself my hate really just focused on adults...I turned bitter to god and after my step mother died...." Carrie sighed letting her voice trail off. " God is very cruel, I'm bitter against him too. I fought Dracula to get revenge for my step mother, but my real mother her death remains without any justice...and it will forever..." Carrie turned to Mauls who was very quite. "...I didn't mean to scare you, I'm shouldn't have told you all that." "You can get your revenge for your real mother too, Carrie." Carrie gazed at him wide eyed. "What do you mean?" Mauls smiled for a moment, but it was not an innocent child like smile. "Oh, nothing..."
